After the
crop has grown, it is essential that the roots be pruned to
increase the root density close to the soil surface.
The Silver Mountain Reciprocating Undercutter/Wrencher:
Allows very
clean cuts across the bottom of the seedling bed without dragging
or sweeping the roots.
Can work with very small trees,
cutting 2" under the surface.
Loosens
the trees and allows them to harden.
Has a reciprocating Wrencher blade
set at
a
fixed 15-degree angle.
Has a blade
made of surgical (stainless) steel.
Cuts hardwood
roots up to 3/4" thick.
Since most
root growth occurs in the fall, the wrenching is done in early
fall after heavy irrigation.
The moist
soil prevents wilting and also
lubricates the blade as it
cuts.
The
Undercutter/Wrencher may be operator-adjusted on the go,
controlling either side wheel's depth independently for an even
and consistent cut across the bed.
